Keep Smiling While Trading: The Impact of Smiling on Your Trading Mood

Did you know that smiling can affect your mood while trading? Let's explore this concept in the article below.

I still remember the first advice from my mentor when I started learning to trade: always maintain a comfortable condition while trading. Trade with a smile. Initially, I protested, wondering what the connection was. Would smiling while trading magically turn red pips green? Of course, the effect isn’t direct. Negative floating doesn't instantly turn positive just because you smile. That would be magic.

So, what impact does trading with a smile have on your profits? I recall reading an e-book and watching a DVD about The Secret a year ago. This theory suggests that our thoughts and feelings attract similar things. If we think and feel positively, we attract positive things. Conversely, negative thoughts and feelings attract negative outcomes.

You've probably experienced proof of this theory yourself. For example, have you ever had a "bad day" that started with something negative in the morning, affecting your mood for the entire day, leading to more negative experiences? The bad events you encounter on such days aren't just coincidences. Your bad mood "attracts" negative events.

The easiest way to maintain a positive psychological state is by smiling. Don't believe it? Try smiling; it will automatically uplift your psychological state. But what if you’re already in a bad mood? How can you maintain a positive mood despite facing bad situations?

Here’s a simple tip to switch from a negative to a positive mood. If you suddenly find yourself in a bad mood, quickly think of happy things. Recall funny or joyful experiences, think about someone you love (this is my most frequent mood switch), or imagine the cute antics of your pet. Or, play cheerful music and sing along; it will surely brighten your mood.

Find it hard to do? Don’t worry. The difficulty is only at the beginning. Over time, you will discover a "mood switch"—something that can quickly change your mood, which you can use whenever your mood starts to dip.

Still experiencing bad trading results even with a positive mood? At least you remain calm during those unpleasant moments. Thus, whatever actions you take to handle those situations will be done calmly, without panic or a bad mood. The best decisions are made in a calm, positive mood. Isn’t trading essentially a series of decision-making processes? From choosing a pair, selecting indicators, deciding to buy/sell, using margin, setting TP/SL, and so on. This is why trading is heavily influenced by psychological factors. Some even say trading is 10% technical, 90% psychological.

So, how’s your mood now? Feeling down? Close your trading platform immediately and perform a mood switch. Play some cheerful music and think of happy things. Don’t have anything positive to think about? Erase those negative thoughts. Be grateful for what you have now. There are always positive things to be thankful for. For example, if you can browse and read this article, you still have the means, resources, and eyesight to see. Isn't that something worth appreciating?

Ok, is your mood positive now? Great! Keep smiling. Open your trading platform. Happy trading and good luck!
